Paola Bora Award

The “Paola Bora Award” is an annual prize promoted by the Casa della Donna di Pisa association, with the support of Paola Bora’s sisters and daughters, and the University Gender Equality Committees (CUG) of the Scuola Normale Superiore, the University of Pisa, and the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. It is also supported by the Italian Society of Historians and Female Scholars and the Italian Society of Women Writers, as well as the Province of Pisa and the Tuscany Region. The award is granted each year to bachelor’s and PhD theses focusing on gender studies.
It was created to honour the memory of Paola Bora, who served as president of Casa della Donna from April 2011 until her passing on 24 January 2015. She was a feminist activist and a professor of philosophical anthropology at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa and of gender anthropology at the University of Pisa, known for combining theoretical reflection with political engagement and a forward-looking perspective.
