Anti-violence support desk

Pisa inter-university helpdesk against gender-based violence

The inter-university helpdesk against gender-based violence was created through coordinated work by the Single Guarantee Committees of the University of Pisa, the Scuola Normale Superiore, and the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, driven by the shared commitment to strengthen efforts in protecting people affected by acts of violence and gender-based discrimination in its broadest sense, including psychological, physical, sexual, moral, and economic forms. The helpdesk is available to students, researchers, teaching staff, and employees of the University of Pisa, the Scuola Normale Superiore, and the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna.

The service is free of charge, anonymous, and does not require any obligation to report incidents. It is managed by professionals from the anti-violence centre of Casa della Donna. The helpdesk services are offered in both Italian and English.

Telephone support is the first step in welcoming requests, identifying any risks, providing information on available services, and planning subsequent contact.

Counselling sessions—conducted by professionals trained in gender-based violence, discrimination, and risk assessment—are aimed at:

• analysing needs and both explicit and implicit requests
• identifying motivation
• assessing risk
• providing information on rights
• referring to other services

If the person reports incidents that fall within the competence of the University’s Trusted Advisor, the counsellor will encourage them to report the matter also to that office.

The pathway may continue at the anti-violence centre of Casa della Donna, with access to its internal and territorial services. In situations involving specific or more complex needs, the person may be referred to specialised services within the local support network.
