For the academic year 2024/2025, the Advanced Training Course “Gender in Schools and Educational Pathways. Training Course on Equality and Differences” is offered by the Department of Civilisations and Forms of Knowledge at the University of Pisa (Department Council resolution no. 240 of 13/09/2024). The course is also supported by the Italian Society of Women Historians (SIS), the Casa della Donna of Pisa, the University of Pisa Sports Centre (CUS), the University Commission for Sustainable Development (CoSA), and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Peace Sciences (CISP) of the University of Pisa.
This course aims to provide specific training for teachers and educators, offering both theoretical tools (drawn from the humanities as well as STEM fields) and practical skills to address some of the most complex issues faced by today’s educational communities. Such a programme therefore seeks to challenge stereotypes and prejudices, foster a different culture of relationships between genders, and combat sexism and racism, as well as prevent and address violence. Schools and educational settings are privileged spaces for education on affectivity and sexuality, and for preventing and combating discrimination and gender-based violence. Teachers and educators can play a central role not only in prevention but also in promoting a culture of rights and equal opportunities, in respect for differences, including those related to sexual orientation.
The deadline for submitting applications is November 15, 2024, at 12:00 p.m.
S.O.F.I.A. Platform ID: 95873, purchasable via the Teacher’s Card.
For registration procedures and full details, applicants are invited to carefully read the call for applications and complete the attached forms.

Teaching and Organisation
Learning Objectives
The course is part of the actions to be undertaken to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5 of the 2030 Agenda, which calls on teachers and educators to play a leading role in the processes necessary to achieve gender equality and the self-determination of all women and girls. Educating new generations to gender equality and respect for differences, while building equitable and emancipatory educational contexts, is today a priority objective of schools and universities and, more broadly, of any educational community. However, there is often a lack of educational and school policies that adequately prepare teachers and educators at all levels to address this task in a systematic and structured way. Even when implemented, the gender perspective often remains confined to specific and separate educational areas, whereas it should instead be a transversal lens of analysis, study, research, teaching, and action across all dimensions of teaching and learning. This course therefore aims to provide specific training for teachers and educators, offering both theoretical tools (drawn from the humanities and STEM fields) and practical skills to address some of the most complex issues faced by today’s educational communities. Such a pathway seeks to dismantle stereotypes and prejudices, build a different culture of gender relations, and combat sexism and racism, as well as prevent and address violence.
